Joseph Francis Phillps, XXX

September 4th, 2006

Hello
Yes, you guessed it, Joey “F’n” P is 30 “F’n” years old.  That’s 30 years of Fletch quotes, 30 years of smug smirks, and 30 years of single handedly keeping the ice cream industry in the black.  Good work, Joey P.  So while Joey P’s birthday fell on Labor Day this year (which is ironic, because Joey P doesn’t spend any day doing labor), and many of you don’t spend your holidays on the computer like I do, if you happen to see this announcement on September 5th, go ahead and send Joey P an e-mail wishing him a happy, belated 30th birthday.  So in honor of Joey P’s birthday, I have included a slideshow of some of Joey P’s greatest hits.  Some people would suggest it is a crime to get a chance to laugh at all of these classic Joey P pictures in one place.  Well, I’m not even sure that’s a crime anymore. There’ve been a lot of changes in the law.

Women’s World Cup on Internet TV

August 17th, 2006

While this headline and article normally wouldn’t make for the pages of TheRegalBeagle.com, there is a special little lady that is involved with the Women’s World Cup.Toilet Bowl

That’s right, all my little Sugar Ts, Claudia Braymer is going to be on PPV.  And this isn’t your mama’s PPV with tables, chairs and overgrown, muscle-bound humans running around and beating the crap out of each other…(there’s no tables and chairs).

In a step that shows an unprecedented support of the women’s game, the IRB is making available a Pay Per View live web telecast of the 2006 Women’s World Cup.
A single match live costs about $4.75, with access to all one team’s three pool games for about $12.50. A tournament pass costs about $95.00 while single-match replays are just under $3.00 (all prices are approximate because they are converted from Pounds Sterling).

Happy Birthday Julie

August 15th, 2006

Julie Sandwich

Wow, we’ve been celebrating some birthdays around here.  At any rate, Julie C (R) becomes the newest member of the 30 club today.  Here she is seen with fellow Mountain Laker Odie and longtime roommate, The Rayl (yes, The Rayl made the TheRegalBeagle) on her 25th birthday.  Julie is now a mom and a proud parent of the ConMan, but once upon a time, Julie was one sixth of the greatest Flip Cup Team ever assembled, Slow Motion Stampede.  Though she doesn’t play as often, my guess is that if Julie wanted to, she could still win a rugged game of Survivor Flip Cup if she really wanted to.  A slideshow of photos featuring Julie can be found here.

Happy Birthday, Meg Simone

August 14th, 2006

Hotties
Meg Simone turns 28 this Sunday, and to celebrate, I am going to write a post about it, and direct you to a link of a slideshow highlighting some of Meg’s more recent adventures.  Meg is seen here with Sara at Mackey’s in South Arlington during the 2005 XBYs.  Meg is one of the best bowlers (female or otherwise) in the XBL and is a vital cog to Bowl Movements (and previously to Strike Force 4).  She has been told throughout her life “Megan Laura, you should have been an actress,” but has taken a decidely different career path.  Meg also thinks fondly upon her time at JMU and refers to her time in Tri Delt as her “Glory Years.”

Happy Birthday Meg, and here’s to hoping the rest of your years will be glory filled as well.

Happy Birthday, Colin and Matt…Join the Club.

August 4th, 2006

One of My Favorites of All TimeWell I wish I had the picture of Matt and Colin taking shots for their twenty-fourth birthday party at an un-airconditioned Glen Carlyn (Colin donning his undershirt with the letters ‘DC’ artfully written with a Sharpie across its front while wiping the sweat from his brow), but this one will have to do. Bianca is getting ready to get married, but she and Neil really don’t have much to do with this photograph…I just liked the faces. Maybe five years from now I will get to scanning some of those older photographs.

At any rate, Colin and Matt turn 30 today. Gentlemen, welcome to the club. By the looks of things, neither one of you will be losing your hair anytime soon; but you’re both married, and I got an e-mail from Colin at 5:30 this morning…going to work, NOT still up from a night of drinking, so I think that qualifies you as old.

I look forward to seeing you both very soon to celebrate this momentous occasion.

100-0027_IMGOh, and I also wanted to wish Greg and Melissa congratulations on their five year wedding anniversary. Seventy-five percent of all broken marriages end within the first five years* so I think you guys are in the clear! In all seriousness, again, congratulations, and I hope you have another great five years (or more) of marriage.

Happy Birthday to Me

July 31st, 2006

Upside Down Thanks to all who endured the journey to Southern Maryland and Serenity to help celebrate my 30th Birthday. It meant a great deal to me that you all could make the trip, and I hope you had half as much fun as I did. While I did turn thirty, for an afternoon I felt like I was sixteen again (with a lot less hair on my head and a lot more belly) and from the looks of the pictures and videos, it seems you guys did too.
Thanks again for all the kind words, gifts, and cards and for just taking the time and effort to make your way down to my parents house for the day.

Happy Birthday, Maureen

July 6th, 2006

Happy Birthday to Maureen O., who on this day turns a healthy and happy 28 years of age.The Unicorns
Maureen is seen here with Partner Eric as they posed for a team picture before the 2002 Beerpong Tournament. Together with Partner Eric, Maureen formed The Unicorns. Maureen’s favorite color is pink, and she was involved in a tragic swingset accident at the age of 2. She prefers her brother’s mixture of iced tea over her own, and her favorite extracurricular activity on the upper east side is jump roping club.

A slideshow of photos featuring Maureen can be found here.

Welcome Connor

July 2nd, 2006

Connor William RyanCongratulations to the Ryan Family, and welcome to little Mr. Connor. Dan and Julie (well Julie actually) gave birth to Connor William Ryan on the morning of Wednesday, June 28th, and all parties are doing really well, and resting (hopefully) comfortably at home.
I was lucky enough to meet the little fella Saturday evening, and I have to say he is one cute baby. Continued success and happiness to the Ryans and we look forward to seeing more of Little Ryno in the near future.

Beagle 2.0

June 23rd, 2006

Welcome to the second iteration of TheRegalBeagle.com. I would like to offer a heart felt thanks to all who visited and contributed to the first version of the site, for without your posing for a picture, your trip to Nash for Polaroid Survivor, or your comments on the Forum, the first version of TheRegalBeagle.com would have existed in even lesser form than it did.

In Beagle 2.0, I have refined the purpose of the site, scaled back its scope, and allowed for self publishing. The brief successes of The OBLOG, Dr. Phil’s Health & Hygiene, and Subjacency are a testament to creativity and humor of members of this group, and I hope that their demise will not deter any of you from starting your own site. If you are interested in starting a blog, PLEASE contact me. I will gladly provide you with hosting and the software needed to start such a venture.

This Beagle will serve as a source of general announcements (parties, graduations, fund-raisers, babies) for our community, and as a launching pad to other sites and blogs that may be of interest to you.

In the past, due to my cludgy code and my desire to control all aspects of the site, all content had to go through me, which probably didn’t foster a feeling of ownership for anyone other than me. Going forward, I will maintain this home page, the events calendar, and the Catalogue. The rest of the content (if there is any) will come from writers, contributors, photographers, and bloggers such as yourself.

Aside from the Catalogue and the Forum (which will be hosted here) you will find all the old Beagle content at classic.theregalbeagle.com. I’m not sure that anyone other than me will ever look at it, but I guarantee there are a few good laughs to be had throughout those pages.

Some interesting new additions you will find in Beagle 2.0 are:

The Beagle Wiki. Despite the memory of historian Matt Kund, there are just too many stories, too many inside jokes, too many memes, of which to keep track. As I have said, this group is a rich tapestry, and it would have been a lot less intimidating entering this group with a tool such as this. Just think of the time that would have been wasted if we had had access to something like this immediately out of college. Regardless, there is not much content there now, but please feel free to make an account, and start contributing to The Beagle Wiki. If you are confused, try starting here.

Beagle Chat. TheRegalBeagle.com now has its very own Jabber chat server, where you can login with your Beagle account, and chat with other members of TheRegalBeagle.com community. I doubt ANYONE other than me will ever use this, however it may be of use to you if you are having issues accessing AIM or MSN Messenger through your work’s firewall. It is completely interoperable with Google Talk, and there are hundreds of free Jabber clients available for you to use, some of which you may already have installed on your computer (iChat, Adium, and Trillian Pro). Contact me if you are interested.

TheRegalBeagle.com Catalogue 2.0. As you can see, I stopped creating catalogue pages a while back. While they were admittedly very nice (flagrant self kudos), they were extremely time consuming and I no longer had the time to write copy and create a banner image for every night out at Garrett’s. I had automated the process as best I knew how, but it still wasn’t easy enough to post the pictures quickly. Enter flickr. Flickr is absolutely, positively the best way to store, sort, search and share your photographs online. I discovered flickr in the winter of 2005, and have been uploading photographs there ever since. Currently, I have uploaded over 2700 photographs, all of which are tagged with each subject in the picture, are searchable by date and by person, and are protected from the casual online stalker by password.

The Catalogue 2.0 is driven completely by flickr, and as such, you have access to the 2700 photographs mentioned above. However, you will be unable to view the majority of these photographs without a flickr account. So, if you haven’t done so, get a flickr account now.

You can find detailed instructions concerning how to use flickr and the new Catalogue here.

I am sorry it took me so long to get the Beagle up and running again. I had intended to update the Beagle for over a year, but obviously never had the time. After changing hosting providers a few months ago, I removed the old content, and took the opportunity to completely reorganize and restructure the way the Beagle worked. Please stop by once a week or so to see what’s happening here at the Beagle or to poke your head into the Forum. I intend to update the site roughly once a week for the next few months. Thank you all again for your continued interest in TheRegalBeagle.com, and welcome to Beagle 2.0.
